Riley Penaluna lives, works, and plays in beautiful downtown Bellingham, WA. In addition to photography, slackery, and writing in the third person, Riley occasionally performs onstage at iDiOM Theater.

Riley’s creative process mainly involves walking around and taking pictures of whatever he finds interesting. Mostly it is the abstract elements of things which catch his eye, the relationships between line, form, texture, occasionally color. An ongoing attempt to find and capture the visual harmonies hidden within the clutter and crap of the modern world. A common theme is the inherent yin/yang of order and chaos underlying this temporal world of forms and phenomena.

Influences and inspirations include the photography of Minor White and Edward Weston, the poetry of Basho, the mysterious whisperings of the universe and the aesthetic and spiritual principles of wabi-sabi.

Riley agrees with the classic Asian idea that beauty is not inherent, but exists only in the relationship between the perceiver and the perceived. He would simply like to share what he has perceived to be beautiful, to show the world what it looks like through his eyes. He hopes you dig.
